Covering more than 50% of Western Australia it’s no surprise there is lots to see and do, but what might surprise you is the diversity of experiences and places to explore. Although the name doesn’t suggest it, in Australia’s Golden Outback you can take selfies with kangaroos on perfectly white beaches, bask in amazing displays of wildflowers as well as exploring the expected outback plains, huge deserts and rugged red earth.

There is so much to see and do in Australia’s Golden Outback, here a few of our top tips:

  • Take a road trip through the region to really soak it in. Here are a couple of options; The Best of the Golden Outback, Road to the Rock, The Golden Quest Discovery Trail, Kalgoorlie and Lake Ballard
  • Discover the important role gold and mining has played for the region, both historically and in modern times. You can even take a tour through the Super Pit, one of the largest open cut mines in the Australia.
  • Head south to the coast and see the perfectly snow-white beaches in and around Esperance. Make sure you head to Lucky Bay and see the resident kangaroos enjoying the beach.
  • Take a helicopter flight over the famous pink Lake Hillier on Middle Island in the Recherche Archipelago. It is one of WA’s most recognisable locations for good reason.
  • See the wonder that is Wave Rock, a 100m long  and 15m high granite outcrop located close to Hyden.
  • Marvel at the World's largest monolith Mt Augustus. At 2.5 times bigger than Uluru, it is a sight to behold.
  • Make use of you Seniors Card travel benefits to enjoy one of our specials taking you into the heart of the Golden Outback.
