Rising Early for Perth's Best Bites: The City Limits Morning Bounty Tour

Tour review by Melina, 19 March 2026. Tour details last checked [September 2026].

Most Perth locals will never see the inside of the Perth Markets at dawn. That is exactly what makes the City Limits Morning Bounty Tour from Matters of Taste Food Discovery Tours such a standout. It is a half-day food experience in Perth that starts before sunrise, goes behind the scenes at a place the public cannot normally enter, and finishes with chocolate, sparkling wine, sushi and a bottle shop browse.

Where does the tour start, and what time?

The tour departs from two locations:

  • Barrack Street Jetty, Perth: departs 6:00am
  • Melville Bowling Club, Canning Highway, Alfred Cove: departs 5:45am

The tour returns at approximately 12:30pm.

For the Melville Bowling Club start, guests can drive, pre-book an Uber, or take public transport (allow 45 minutes to an hour from around Perth city). The Barrack Street Jetty departure is in the heart of the city.

What does the morning look like?

  • 6:30-8:30am, Perth Markets: Walk the markets with the Market CEO, meet producers and suppliers, and enjoy a morning coffee along the way.
  • 9-10am, breakfast at The Cool Room: A sit-down breakfast, included in the tour.
  • 10-11am, Bon Bonbon: A chocolate tasting paired with a glass of sparkling wine.
  • 11-11:30am, Fins (Bicton): A shared sushi platter, plus a chance to chat with staff.
  • 11:30am-12pm, Mane (Bicton): Time to browse and shop at this specialty bottle shop.

Can you visit the Perth Markets on your own?

Not behind the scenes. Visitors cannot access the Perth Markets independently, which is this tour's biggest drawcard. You get a rare look at a working part of the city's food supply, and you meet the producers and suppliers who keep it running, with the Market CEO as your guide.

What stood out

The guides. Tracey and Anthony Cotterell, the couple behind Matters of Taste Food Discovery Tours, were kind, passionate and knowledgeable, and they made the day. They are the kind of local characters guests remember and talk about afterwards.

Feeling like a tourist at home. The tour lets locals experience their own city the way visitors would, which is a big part of its charm.

Variety and take-home options. The range of food to try is excellent, and there are plenty of chances to buy products to take home from the markets, Bon Bonbon, Fins and Mane.

What should you bring?

  • Closed-toe shoes, which are required
  • A cooler for any shopping you do along the way
  • A plan for getting to your departure point on time, given the early start

Our verdict

With passionate guides, an exclusive look inside the Perth Markets and a generous run of food, chocolate and drink, the City Limits Morning Bounty Tour is an easy tour to recommend, especially for locals who think they already know their city or visitors from outside WA that like to discover a city through its food.
