The Kings Park and Blue Boat House Segway Tour from Segway Tours WA is a leisurely ride from Barrack Street Jetty along the Swan River and right through Kings Park, with stops at the Blue Boat House and Zamia's Café, and plenty of Perth history along the way.

This is a guided Segway ride around Perth's riverside and Kings Park, operated by Segway Tours WA, which also runs tours around Perth and on Rottnest Island. Groups are small, your guide's commentary comes through an earpiece, and the pace is easy, with time to stop for photos and a coffee.

How do you get to Barrack Street Jetty?

Your ride begins at Barrack Street Jetty in Perth and wraps up at Elizabeth Quay.

  • By public transport: The Blue CAT stops nearby every 15 minutes, and the jetty is a short walk from both Perth Station and Elizabeth Quay Station.
  • By car: Parking at the jetty isn't suited to a tour of this length. The closest option is the car park behind Perth Concert Hall.

The route, stop by stop

  • Practice session: Before heading out, you practice riding the Segway, so no experience is needed.
  • First stop, the Blue Boat House: A photo stop at one of Perth's best-known riverside spots.
  • Second and third stops, Zamia's Café and Roe Street Lookout: Time to stop for a coffee and take in the views.
  • Through Kings Park: The ride takes you right through Kings Park to the other side of the park and around Zamia's Café. The War Memorial area is a ride-through only, with no stopping.
  • Fraser Avenue: A final stop to take in the view and grab a last photo.
  • Back to Elizabeth Quay: You make your way safely back, where the tour finishes.

What we loved

A small group and lots of information. The ride is packed with information, and the group stays small. For visitors, there's plenty of history on Perth, Kings Park and the Swan River.

Must-see sites and places locals might not have been. The route covers sites on a tourist's list of must-sees, plus places many locals probably haven't visited.

Kings Park at a gentle pace. Cruising through Kings Park is a lovely way to enjoy its botanical and scenic beauty, with great views along the river.

The guide. James, our guide, knew his subject inside out and clearly loved his job.

Good to know before you ride

  • You must be 12 or over to ride
  • No experience is needed, and the tour is quite safe and not scary
  • Enclosed shoes are required
  • You wear an earpiece so you can hear your guide
  • Riders stay in single file during the tour

Is it worth it?

A small group, a guide who knows his subject and an unhurried ride past the river, the Blue Boat House and through Kings Park make this Segway tour a great pick for visitors and locals alike, especially if you want to see your own city from a new angle.
